Before a primetime national audience, the 11th-ranked Texas Longhorns upset third-ranked Alabama, 34-24; but Miami storms past 23rd-ranked Texas A&M, and Baylor falls short against 12th-ranked Utah
Making an emphatic statement to become a part of the national title conversation, the 11th-ranked Texas Longhorns delivered their biggest victory under head coach Steve Sarkisian by dismantling the third-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, 34-24, in Tuscaloosa Saturday night. But most of the other Texas major college football teams did not fair so well.
In other Texas major college action, the 12th-ranked Utah Utes rallied late to slip past the Baylor Bears, 20-13, the 23rd-ranked Texas A&M Aggies were shredded by the Miami Hurricanes, 48-33, the 13th-ranked Oregon Ducks held off the Texas Tech Red Raiders 38-30, and the 18th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners dominated the SMU Mustangs, 28-11.
No. 11 TEXAS Longhorns 34, No. 3 ALABAMA Crimson Tide 24
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers passed for 349 yards and three touchdowns as the 11th-ranked Longhorns stampeded their way back into national relevance with a convincing 34-24 victory over the third-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide Saturday night at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.
Ewers completed 24 of 38 passes, connecting with wide receiver Adonai Mitchell for two fourth quarter scoring strikes, while tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders caught five passes for 114 yards.
Despite the fourth quarter fireworks, the Longhorn defense kept Texas (2-0) in the game by picking off Alabama quarterback Jermaine Burton twice. And in the process, Alabama (1-1) had its 21-game home winning streak snapped along with a 57-game regular-season run against non-conference teams dating to Nick Saban’s debut season in 2007.

No. 12 UTAH Utes 20, BAYLOR Bears 13
After leading the entire game, the Baylor Bears watched it slip away as the 12th-ranked Utah Utes escaped with a last-second 20-13 victory Saturday afternoon at McLane Stadium in Waco.
Led by redshirt quarterback Nate Johnson, Utah marched 88 yards on 15 plays as Jaylon Glover capped the drive with an 11-yard touchdown run to tie the game. Then Utah’s Cole Bishop intercepted Baylor quarterback Sawyer Robertson to set up the winning score to give the Utes (2-0) their first lead of the game with 17 seconds remaining.
Baylor earned a chance to tie the game when Robertson connected with Hal Presley for a 47-yard gain. But Robertson’s final pass fell incomplete in the endzone despite a controversial no call on a possible defensive pass interference.

MIAMI (FL) Hurricanes 48, No. 23 TEXAS A&M Aggies 33
Overcoming a slow start, Miami quarterback Tyler Van Duke threw for 374 yards and five touchdowns as the Hurricanes stormed past the 23rd-ranked Texas A&M Aggies, 48-33, Saturday afternoon at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
The Aggies (1-1) jumped out to a 10-point first quarter lead, but a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Hurricane Brashard Smith turned the game around in the third quarter, and Miami (2-0) never looked back. Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman threw for 336 yards and two touchdowns in the losing effort, connecting with Evan Stewart 11 times for 142 yards.
After the strong first quarter, the Aggies came undone with a missed field goal, an interception and a fumble lost in the final three quarters — all momentum-killing plays on the road.
