Going into Week 4 of the 2023 Texas high school football season, Heart of Texas teams hold firm to their place among the state’s elite in new Top 10 rankings

Things settled down a bit in Week 3 of the 2023 Texas high school football season after a wild second weekend. As a result, the Heart of Texas elite teams maintained their place among the state’s Top 10 teams in Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A.

The defending state champion China Spring Cougars (2-1) solidified its spot at No. 3 in the Class 4A, Division I state rankings with a resounding 69-27 victory over Mexia, while the Stephenville Yellowjackets (2-1) held at No. 6 after escaping with a 56-55 win over Decatur. In Class 4A, DII, the Waco Connally Cadets (2-0) stayed at No. 7 by knocking off the previously Class 3A, DI state-ranked Cameron Yoe, 59-38.

In Class 3A, DI, the previously state-ranked Grandview Zebras (2-1) were not able to break back into the Top 10 following a crushing 70-0 victory over Dallas Life Oak Cliff. But in Class 3A, DII, the Comanche Indians (3-0) moved up a two more spots to No. 7 by blanking Early, 57-0.

Class 2A, DI includes the third-ranked Tolar Rattlers (2-1) dropped back two spots after losing to Dallas Christian, 37-6, but the Crawford Pirates (2-1) held on at No. 9 with a bounced back 56-21 win over Rio Vista; and the perennial powerhouse Mart Panthers (3-0) held on to second in Class 2A, DII with a convincing 49-7 victory over Italy.

In six-man football, the Abbott Panthers (3-0) stayed at No. 2 while the Jonesboro Eagles (2-1) climbed back up two spots in Class 1A, DI with a 76-4 victory over Austin St. Stephens, and the Oglesby Tigers (3-0) remained the second-ranked team in Class 1A, DII with a dominating 56-8 win over the Covington Owls.
