PUMPING IRON: Lady Cubs open with win at Bosqueville Invitational

in Powerlifting

BOSQUEVILLE – Opening the season with a powerful statement, the Clifton boys and girls powerlifting teams made their presence known at the Bosqueville Invitational  Jan. 11 as the Lady Cubs won the team title with 11 of 12 girls placing and setting two new meet records.

Scoring 49 points, the Lady Cubs were led by Sutton Finney, who captured first place in the 132-pound class and set a new meet record by lifting 165 pounds in bench press of 165 pounds, and Kamryn Kettler, who took first place in the 181-pound class while setting a new meet record with a dead lift of 375 pounds.

Other Lady Cubs placing in their weight class were Katelyn Hunt (2nd), Sarah Slater (3rd), Kambrie Kettler (2nd), Regan Brooks (2nd), Maddie Burk (2nd), Grace Countryman (2nd), Hannah Abel (5th), Jo Burke (5th), and Beth Ann McMillan (2nd).

The Clifton boys placed fifth by scoring 21 points, led by Joel Santillan with a first place finish in his weight class.

Other Cubs placing in their weight class were Layton Hewitt (4th), Sergio Garcia (2nd), Jackson Newton (4th), Mathew Hobbs (3rd), and Zack Hohertz (5th).

“The girls team returns five regional qualifiers in Hunt, Finney, Burk, Kettler and McMillan, with Kettler being a two-time state qualifier,” Clifton powerlifting head coach Brent Finney said. “The boys are very young this year with just one returning letterman in senior Joel Santillan.”
