CLASS 3A

With Class 3A, Division I district races well underway, the cream has already begun to rise to the top. In District 7-3A, DI, the undefeated Whitney Wildcats (3-0, 5-0) and the Grandview Zebras (3-0, 4-1) have emerged as the frontrunners as expected with the Maypearl Panthers (2-1, 4-1) and West Trojans (2-1, 3-2) in position to challenge.

Re-establishing themselves as the co-favorite for the District 11-3A, DI crown, the Lorena Leopards (2-0, 4-2) knocked the Little River-Academy Bumblebees (1-1, 5-1) from the ranks of the undefeated with a decisive 56-38 victory last Friday night, while the top-ranked Franklin Lions (2-0, 6-0) remained undefeated by handing the Rockdale Tigers (0-1, 1-4) their first district loss of the season.

In Class 3A, DII, district competition begins in both District 5-3A, DII and District 13-3A, DII this week. But none of the pre-season top dogs line up to face each other in the openers.

CLASS 2A

Although the Class 2A, DI’s third-ranked Tolar Rattlers (1-0, 4-1) solidified their place as the Heart of Texas’s top team with a convincing 38-0 shutout of the Hamilton Bulldogs (0-2, 3-3), the Coleman Blue Cats (2-0, 5-1) and DeLeon Bearcats (2-0, 5-1) share the District 5-2A, DI top spot, while the undefeated Riesel Indians (2-0, 5-0) surprisingly looks like the team to beat in District 8-2A, DI.

But few surprises can be found in Class 2A, DII as the second-ranked Mart Panthers (2-0, 6-0) have eased to an undefeated record in District 10-2A, DII, while the Axtell Longhorns (2-0, 6-0) have emerged as the clear frontrunner in District 7-2A, DII

CLASS 1A: SIX-MAN

In the meantime, the fifth-ranked Jonesboro Eagles (5-1) open District 14-1A, DI competition on the road at Lometa (3-3), while the Blum Bobcats (3-3) will open District 11-1A, DI play by hosting the Covington Owls (2-4).
